Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat the garbage and, at the same time, recover lactic acid and methane by a method wherein an acid amylase and a lactic acid bacteria are added to the paper containing garbage to carry out lactic fermentation and solid-liquid separation is carried out to recover lactic acid from a liquid part and the residue based on a paper is subjected to cellulase treatment and, thereafter, digested anaerobically.
CONSTITUTION: In the first procedure, water an acid amylase and a lactic acid bacteria are added to the paper containing garbage to decompose a starch in the garbage to low molecular substances to carry out the lactic fermentation. In the second procedure, the fermented garbage is reparated into a fermented liquid containing lactic acid bacteria cells and the residue and, moreover, in the third procedure, the fermented liquid is separated into a supernatant liquid and a fine particle containing substance. This supernatant liquid is separated into lactic acid and a matrix liquid by an ion exchange resin in a fourth procedure and the matrix liquid is subjected to methane fermentation in the fifth procedure. In the sixth procedure, to the residue separated in the second procedure, water and a cellulase are added to decompose the cellulose therein and the decomposed substances are eluted in water. In the seventh procedure, the eluted liquid is subjected to solid-liquid separation and, in the eighth procedure, the liquid part is subjected to methane fermentation.
