Abstract
PURPOSE: To mold a green sand mold for casting which is superior in air permeability, green sand mold strength and filling characteristic and is superior in collapsing property after casting by adding a polyhydric alcohol to the molding sand at the time of molding the green sand mold for casting.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of molding a green sand mold for casting, a polyhydric alcohol is added besides argillaceous components such as ordinary bentonite to molding sand and the mixture is kneaded. A polyhydric alcohol having two or more hydroxyl groups such as ethylene glycol or glycerol is added alone or two or more kinds of these are added at 0.01W1% ratio. The green sand mold for casting molded by this casting sand has high packing density, high strength, does not produce any toxic gas and unpleasant odor and has good air permeability; hence, defects such as pinholes and cavities are not produced in the casting; moreover, it is superior in the collapsing property of the molding sand after casting.
