Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce mechanical loss by extending ordinary belts between pulleys, in a heat driven engine in which pulleys are rotated by use of belts made of a shape memory alloy.
CONSTITUTION: One belt 3 is heated by heating means 4 and another belt 3 is cooled by cooling means 5. Hot water of hot spring or the like is utilized as heating means 4, and cool water or the like is utilized as cooling means. When a belt 3 made of a shape memory alloy such as an Ni-Ti alloy or the like are heated to a temperature above a transformation temperature of the shape memory alloy, and a belt 3 at the opposite side is cooled to a temperature below the transformation temperature, the heated belt 3 tends to return to a shape memory processed, and generates tension around the heating part. Upon this occasion, pulleys 1 and 2 are rotated in a direction where a force acting on both pulleys 1 and 2 is strong. At the above pulleys 1 and 2 there are provided pulleys 9 and 10 between which an ordinary belt 11 is strung in parallel to the pulleys 1 and 2, thereby to reduce the mechanical loss.
