Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to fit an electrode correctly to a boiler drum seam and to ensure its welding, by forming the width of an electrode wire to a specified shape after cleaning the wire contacted with the boiler drum when the electric wire is used repeatedly.
CONSTITUTION: Endless electrode wire 42 sent continuously from welding location B passes through gauge roll 44. Detector 48 detects movement of gauge roll 44, and gives a constant tension to wire 42 by controlling auxiliary driving roll 51. Wire 42 from final auxiliary driving roller 56' passes through thickness measuring device 60 and thus the thickness is measured. Cutter tables 71 and 73 of cleaning device 70 move in accordance with this signal and clean the surface of wire 42 by cutting. Then wire 42 is sent to drawing tool 76 and the width of wire 42 is made to a fixed size and pressed between rolls 78 and 77 and its both sides in the direction of thickness are prepared. The wire passes through speed detecting device 80 and returns to conduction guide roll 41. By this mechanism, wire 42 is kept in the groove of roll 41 and boiler drum seams can be welded accurately.
