Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively cool the roll, and to restrict the temperature drop in the rolled material to a very small value, by employing a cooling effect changing agent having different cooling effect between the low temperature zone and the high temperatur zone, after adding it to the cooling water.
CONSTITUTION: The cooling effect changing agent accomplishes the cooling effect in a low temperature zone like as 400 or lower degrees for example, but declines the cooling effect in a high temperature zone like as 400W1,200°C for example, one or more than two of sodium alginate, carboxylmethylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, polyacrylamide, and polyalkyleneglycol, are employed as this cooling effect transforming agent. For instance, when the material 31 is to be rolled by the rolling roll 30, the tip 34a of the drain board 34 is tight pressed to the roll 30 leaving no clearance, and the cooling water 33 is sprayed from the nozzle 32 against the roll 30; besides, the modified cooling water 37, prepared by adding above stated cooling effect changing agent to the cooling water, is sprayed from the nozzle 36 against the roll 30. Hereby, the roll life can be about 5% extended and the temperature drop in the rolled material can be reduced by about 5W15°C.
