Abstract

PURPOSE:To monitor the state of failure of a tool with high precision by a method wherein signals having a specified range of frequencies are detected from acoustic emission (AE) signals generated from a throw-way tip. CONSTITUTION:Signals transmitted from an AE signal measuring element 3 fixed for a throw-away tip 2 are inputted and amplified in an amplifier 4, the signals of 100kHz or smaller and 1,000kHz or larger of the outputs are removed by a frequency discriminator 5 and the outputs of the remaining frequency components only are inputted into a comparator 6. When the increment of the AE signal exceeds the reference value, the comparator transmits the output to an instruction device 7 for replacing the tool.
