Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a clearance between the first member and the second member constant to realize an ideal engaging condition by a method wherein an engaging shaft part and an engaging hole is lapped along the whole length thereof uniformly in case the engaging depth between the first and second members is deep. CONSTITUTION:The first work 82 provided with the spline hole 81 is fixed to the first holding device 5 while the second work 84 provided with the spline shaft part 83 is attached to the second holding device 15. The shaft part 83 is coated with a lapping agent. When a piston rod 8 is pushed out, a downward force is applied to the work 84 from the holding device 15 through a load cell 30 and a spring 35 to force the shaft part 83 into the hole 81. When the rod 8 is pushed out successively, the device 15 is lowered and the shaft part 83 is engaged into the hole 81 to the deepest position. Thus, the clearance between the engaging shaft part and the engaging hole is made constant and the ideal engaging condition may be realized.
