Abstract
PURPOSE: To treat polluted water by oxidation in a short time by means of biological membrane formed on the surfaces of particles by a method in which fine particles whose weight is lighter than water are added to polluted water in an oxidizing tank and the polluted water is treated while blowing air into the tank.
CONSTITUTION: Fine particles 14 of polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, etc., whose weight is lighter than water are added to polluted water in an oxidizing tank 8, and then air 13 is blown into the bottom of the tank, whereupon the particles 14 are circulated with the polluted water 12 in a convectional current manner. Thus, since the peeling off of biological membrane formed on the surfaces of particles is lessened and the biological membrane in contact with the polluted water is increased because the mutual friction of the particles do not occur, the polluted water can be effectively treated by oxidation and also the generation of excessive sludge can be reduced.
