Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent scale formation in a classifier and permit a highly concentrated slurry to be discharged for a long period, by introducing a pressurized fluid through pressurized fluid introducing inlets provided to a discharge section and/or a discharge conduit for withdrawing the slurry from the bottom of the classifier.
CONSTITUTION: To the conduit 6 of the cone-shaped type classifier 1 is attached the conduit 7 with a valve 5 for introducing a fluid having a pressure higher than a static pressure of the liquid in the classifier 1. The valve 4 is closed and the valve 5 is opened to introduce a pressurized air through the conduit 7, and immediately thereafter, the valve 5 is closed and the valve 4 is opened. As a result, particles accumulated in the classifier 1 can be fluidized, and the highly concentrated slurry can pass through the conduit 6 in the state of a paste and is discharged into a reservoir tank 2. By repeating the above operation periodically, scale formation that otherwise occurs to adhere to the classifier 1 can be obviated, the flow rate of slurry to be withdrawn from the bottom of the classifier 1 can be reduced, and the highly concentrated slurry can be discharged.
