Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a stainless steel for casting with superior corrosion resistance and castablility by adding much Mn to an 18Cr-8Ni stainless steel as a master base and increasing the Cr and Ni contents.
CONSTITUTION: This Cr-Ni stainless steel contains <0.10% C, <2.0% Si, 5.0W 15.0% Mn, 16.0W30.0% Cr, 12.0W25.0% Ni and 0.10W0.50% B. It is used for casting by centrifugal casting, die casting, investment casting, shell molding or other method. By adding much Mn and a little B to an 18Cr-8Ni stainless steel, the fluidity is enhanced, and deterioration in the corrosion resistance due to the addition of Mn is compensated with an increase in the Cr and Ni contents. Simultaneoulsy, the m.p. is lowered. Thus, this steel has superior corrosion resistance and castability.
