Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out efficient recovery by separating anhydrous sodium sulfate, sodium sulfate decahydrate and NaCl from a mixed aqueous soln. of NaCl and sodium sulfate by applying a solubility difference.
CONSTITUTION: Dust captured with a recovery boiler in a process of recovering chemicals from a pulp mill is recovered and utilized. Dust 1 contg. NaCl and sodium sulfate is put into settling vessel (a), and sodium sulfate soln. 3, 4 and water 2 are introduced into vessel (a) and agitated to form slurry 6. Slurry 6 is separated into solid sodium sulfate 8 and mother liquor 7 with centrifugal separator (b). Liquor 7 is returned to vessel (a). Overflow 5 of vessel (a) is concd. by evaporation with evaporator (c), slurry 9 is freed of anhydrous sodium slufate 10 with separator (d), and mother liquor 11 is fed to cooler (e), where it is cooled to ≤ about 0°C to deposit sodium sulfate decahydrate. Slurry 15 is freed of sodium sulfate decahydrate 16 with separator (g), and mother liquor 17 is fed to evaporator (h) and concd. by evaporation to deposit NaCl. NaCl 19 is separated from slurry 18 with separator (i), and waste water 20 is discharged from the system.
