Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain, in high yield, a good-quality liquefied oil by the hydrocracking of a coal at a high temperature and at a higher hydrogen pressure, by use of a porous magnesium silicate catalyst, on which a metal such as a transition metal or tin is supported.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst is obtained by depositing a metal, such as Fe, Ni, Co, Cu, Zn or Sn, on a porous magnesium silicate (e.g., sepiolite or palygorskite) by the ion exchange method etc. A coal such as a (sub)bituminous coal is hydrocracked in an oil medium (e.g., a liquefied oil or cracked oil from a coal) at 400W 500°C and at a hydrogen pressure of 50W500kg/cm2, in contact with said catalyst, to obtain a liquefied oil. It is preferable to use a coal and a catalyst, both crushed to 100 mesh or lower.
EFFECT: The catalyst is exceedingly highly active, and of extremely prolonged life.
