Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform accurate reproduction of density, by converting the input video signal including intermediate tone to a signal consisting of a value of level less than optical density level value of the recording means and making the relation between the area at the black part and the visual density linear, through the pulse modulation of the input video signal. CONSTITUTION:The input video signal I including intermediate tone is input from an input terminal 1 to one input terminal of the 1st comparison circuit 2 and the 2nd comparison circuit 3, and the 1st and 2nd screen signals S1, S2 of saw-tooth wave shape having different levels from a screening signal generator 4 are respectively fed to other input terminals of the circuits 2, 3. Further, in the circuits 2, 3, the input video signal I and the signals S1, S2 are compared. The 1st ON/OFF signal W1 is output to the output of the circuit 2 and the 2nd ON/OFF signal W2 is output to the output of the circuit 3, the respective output is fed to an adder 9 via resistors 7, 8, and a recording signal is output to the output terminal 10 of the adder 9, to make linear the relation between the area of black part and the visual density, allowing to improve the high density part and to enable accurate density reproduction.
