Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a glycol dialkyl ether at a low cost, by the catalytic hydrogenation decomposition of a glycol monoalkyl ether acetal compound in the presence of an Ni-group composite catalyst composed of easily available Ni, Mo and/ or Re.
CONSTITUTION: In the catalytic hydrogenation decomposition of an acetal compound of formula I (R is alkyl; R1 and R2 are H or alkyl; n is 1W8), e.g. ethylene glycol monomethyl ether formal, to obtain a glycol dialkyl ether compound of formula II, e.g. ethylene glycol dimethyl ether, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising an Ni-group composite catalyst composed of Ni and Mo and/or Re. The catalyst introduces its constituent elements through its decomposable compound, especially thermally decomposable compound.
USE: Solvent, extracting agent, absorbent, gas-cleaning agent, etc.
