Abstract

PURPOSE: The use of a foaming agent having a specific vapor pressure permits the production of plastic foams suitably used as a heat insulation material because of its closed-cell structure and low thermal conductivity.
CONSTITUTION: As a foaming agent, is used a compound with a vapor pressure of less than 10 Torr at a temperature lower than normal one, e.g., room temperatureW -20°C, such as nonane or decane. For example, a polyol, tolylenediisocyanate, a silicone foam controller, benzoyl chloride as a reaction relaxant and a paraffinic hydrocarbon such as nonane as a foaming agent are mixed to prepare the starting composition. Then, the composition is foamed by lowering the pressure to lower than the saturate pressure of the foaming agent to produce the polyurethane foam.
