Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the thermal stress of the casing of a steam control valve for a steam turbine, by providing a steam by-pass composed of a groove and a cylindrical steam chamber which is located between a valve seat and the casing.
CONSTITUTION: A steam control valve has a cylindrical steam chamber 12 between a valve seat 7 and a casing 2. In low-load running, a valve member 3 is moved down, a steam flow is restricted at a throat 9 and the inside wall of the valve seat 7 and the inside wall 10 of an outlet pipe 6 are cooled. At that time, the heat of the casing 2 is preserved because high-temperature steam in a valve chest 14 flows through a steam inlet passage 13, the cylindrical steam chamber 12 and the groove 15 in the outlet pipe 6. As a result, the temperature gradient in the casing 2 is made gentle. Therefore, the thermal stress of the peripheral surface 11 of the outlet pipe 6 is reduced.
