Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a heat-sensitive recording material which has a heat-sensitive layer containing a specific proportion of a novolak-type phenol resin and carbon black for allowing the nonpicture portion to be readily removed and obtaining an excellent film-forming ability and a clearer exposure visible image. CONSTITUTION:A novolak-type phenol resin of average molecular weight 350- 20,000, preferably 400-7,000, which has a repeated unit represented by the general formula [R1 and R2 are H or lower alkyl radical; R3-5 are H, halogen, hydroxy, nitro, amino, carboxy (salt) or sulfonic (salt) radical, or chain hydrocarbon radical of C1-20 or cyclic hyrocarbon radical of C4-14] and carbon black of average particle size 10-80mmu are mixed so that the weight ratio is 1:1-20:1, and dispersed into an organic solvent, before being applied to a support to that the thickness is 1-15mu to form a heat-sensitive layer.
