Abstract

PURPOSE: Polyester fibers are produced so that they have a specific cross section, crystal size, stress-strain curve, latent crimping property, dry-heat shrinkage, etc., to produce inexpensively fibers that give good feel when a man lie on a mat made from the fibers because of their high bulkiness and high dimensional stability.
CONSTITUTION: A polyester of PET is melt extruded through a spinneret with modified cross section nozzles and the yarns are asymmetrically cooled by blowing a cooling air, passed through a heating zone kept at higher than 80°C, drawn in one step by taking up the yarn at a speed of higher than 3,000m/min, and, when necessary, heat treated so that the denier of filament D is made 2W15 denier, the cross section has bended parts and at least three projections, the cross section modification ratio S is no more than 5,000/D0.5, the latent crimping porperty can develop wave- type three-dimensional crimps, the crimping number, CN is 10W30/2.54cm, the percentage crimp Ci is no less than 10%, Ci/CN is no more than 2, the initial tensile resilience is no less than 32g/d, the crystal size at (100) surface is no less than 28Å, the dry-heat shrinkage at 160°C is no more than 5% and an inflection point does not develop in the stress-strain curve of the filament.
