Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover waste heat without various defects in the case of a boiler by heating the skid cooling water of an ingot heating furnace to high-temp. water without evaporating and using the same in the boiler and vaporizing a low b.p. heating medium and driving expansion turbines.
CONSTITUTION: Cooling water in a water storage tank 20 is admitted via an inlet side manifold 7 into the skid posts 9a in a heating furnace 3 to cool water cooling pipes 5 and cool the skids 4 in contact therewith. The cooling water is heated to hot water to about 98°C which is then taken out from the skid posts 9b and enters a carburettor 23 via an outlet side manifold 11. In the carburettor 23, Furon which is a heating medium of a low b.p. is heated and evaporated through heat exchanging and an expansion turbine 25 is rotated by the evaporated Furon to drive a generator 26. The hot water heat exchanges with Furon and is thereby cooled, thence it returns again into a storage tank. Since no boiler is used for the energy recovery device, there are no maintenance and inspection of boilers nor any economical defect such as constant stationing of boiler engineers, thus the heat energy of the cooling water of the skids may be recovered.
