Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve low-temperature fluidity by adding a diesterified copolymer of an internal olefin with maleic anhydride into a residual fuel oil or a crude oil.
CONSTITUTION: An α-olefin such as dodecene-1 or tetradecene-1, is isomerized at about 100W300°C, by use of an alkali metal, a solid acid, etc., to obtain an internal olefin. Then the internal olefin is copolymerized with maleic anhydride in the presence of a catalyst such as a Lewis acid, and the resulting copolymer is esterified to obtain a diesterified product of the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each 12W30C saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon; R3 and R4 are each 1W29C saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon, where the total number of carbon atoms of R3 and R4 is 10W30; n is 2W39). A residual fuel oil or a crude oil composition with improved low-temprature fluidity, is obtained by adding 100W20,000ppm of the compound into a residual fuel oil or a crude oil.
