Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect related equipment by detecting abnormal shutdown of a compressor and promptly disengaging a driving system by means of an electromagnetic sensor which is related to the motion of a tilted plate installed in a driving shaft.
CONSTITUTION: A portion to be detected consists of the circumference of a tilted plate 5. When a driving shaft 3 rotates, the detected portion moves on a track where periodic motion is made. A magnetic flux is formed between a magnet 20 and the detected portion which is made of a magnetic material. When the detected portion faces the magnet 20, the density of the magnetic flux is changed. This change of the density generates voltage pulses in an electromagnetic sensor 18 in a cycle responding to a speed of the driving shaft 3. Pulses are periodically generated, therefore, when a compressor is normally functioning. When a compressor comes to an emergency halt due to seizure of a sliding portion or damage of a part, pulses are not generated. If a pulse detector detects the absence of pulses, the detector generates a "STOP POWER SUPPLY" signal, disengages a driving input of the compressor, and hence protects a driving system or its related equipment.
