NEW MATERIAL:A quinoxaline derivative expressed by formula I [R is COOH or COOR' [R' is lower alkyl or (CH2)2OCH3], CON(CH3)2 or CH=CH-COOCH3]. EXAMPLEIsopropyl-2-[4-(6,7-dichloro-2-quinoxalyloxy)phenoxy]propionate.
USE: A herbicide having improved effects on gramineous plants by any of soil and foliar treatment, with little phytotoxicity to crops,. e.g. cotton, soybeans, Japanese radishes and eggplants.
PROCESS: 2,6,7-Trichloroquinoxaline of formula II is reacted with hydroquinone of formula III, and the resultant compound of formula IV is then reacted with a compound of formula V to give the compound of formula I.
