NEW MATERIAL:A quinoxaline derivative of formula I (R is H or lower alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 2-[ 4-(6-Fluoro-2-quinoxalyloxy)phenoxy ]propionic acid isopropyl ester of formula II.
USE: Herbicide having excellent herbicidal effect especially to true grasses by soil treatment and foliar treatment, and almost harmless to crops such as cotton, soybean, radish, cabbage, eggplant, etc.
PROCESS: 4-Fluoro-o-phenylenediamine is made to react with di-n-butyl L-(+)- tartrate in the presence of NaIO4, and the product is reacted successively with POCl3 and with 2-(4'-hydroxyphenoxy)-propionic acid alkyl ester in the presence of K2CO3 to afford a compound of formula I wherein R is alkyl, which is converted another compound of formula I wherein R is H.
