Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a fused flux, which makes high-quality welding possible, with a good productivity, by causing the fused flux to contain a specific quantity of carbon and by dry-cooling them by specific methods respectively, when the fused flux is cooled into a plate form or a granular form.
CONSTITUTION: In production of a fused flux, melt 3 containing 0.02W0.1% carbon from dissolving furnace 1 is cooled rapidly in wind tunnel 11 by the wind blown out through blower 9 and nozzle 8, that is, particles 95% or more of which pass through the sieve of meshes of 7.9mm are obtained and are dry-cooled, thus obtaining granular flux 4. Granular flux 4 may have collided with collision plate 10 into flat particles. In case of plate-form particles, the flux is dry-cooled into thin plate-form flux 5 by a set of cooling rolls 15AW15C so that the thickness is 5mm or less. Thus, the cooling time is shorter than the conventional method, and the fused flux is obtained where a good weld metal can be obtained without drying.
