Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the device of high reliability by installing optical fibers in a cylindrical belt composed of elastic material with their light emitting faces being exposed and so constituting said belt that it may be mounted to the barrel of the objective lens of an optical system.
CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical belt 2 composed of elastic material such as rubber is buried with multiple optical fibers 3 and the light emitting end faces 3a of the respective optical fibers 3 are exposed to the end face 2a of the belt 2. The respective optical fibers 3 are held connected to a suitable light source and coating 5 is applied on the outside circumferential portions of the optical fibers 3 between the light source and belt 2 to prevent the leakage of light. The belt 2 is mounted to the barrel 6b of an optical instrument 6. When the objective lens 6a is directed to the object and light is supplied to each optical fiber 3 from the light source, the light is irradiated on the object from the light emitting faces 3a. Forming the belt 2 in strip-form and winding the same on the barrel 6b are equally well. This yields the optical fiber lighting device of high reliability stable to vibrations.
