Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to take measurements of unchangeable points in process of continuous run, by using an eddy current detector, whose impedance varies with an eddy current, to acquire the eddy current flowing through a rail.
CONSTITUTION: To balance beam 5 fitted to axis box 3 of wheel 2 running on rail top surface 1-1, detection arm 6 is fixed for fitting detectors 7-1 and 7-2, whose detectors are fed with electricity from signal AC power source 25 through driving amplifiers 15-1 and 15-2 having impedance bridge circuits, thereby making it possible to detect a fixed position on the flank of the rail. Detectors 7-1' and 7-2' detect top surface 1-1' and upper neck part 1-2' of abrasive rail 1' at the same time and the data are input to operator 24 together with the head size of a normal rail stored in memory 20 so as to calculate the difference. Consequently, measurement in process of run becomes possible and dimensional precision in terms of abrasion and polishing degrees can be improved.
