Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain the car height at a level suitable for running the car regardless of conditions of a road (a paved road, a very bumpy mountain road, and so on) to prevent a trouble such as by contact of a bottom part of a car body with the road by providing for designation of a desired one of a plurality of car height references.
CONSTITUTION: A disc 14 constituting a car height detecting portion 13 is provided on a link mechanism 12 connected to a shaft 11. The disc 14 is rotated by the link mechanism 12 which converts a change in the car height, that is, a change in a linear distance in the vertical direction between a car body 8 and the shaft 11, into a change in a rotational angle of the disc 14. Upon rotation of the disc 14, a light detecting condition of light receiving portions R1WR3 of the detecting portion 13 is caused to change by light shielding portions V1WV3 whereupon a logical output corresponding to the car height is obtained from the detecting portion 13. This car height signal is compared at a comparator means 9 with a reference car height signal preset by a switch 16, and a switch 10 is turned on depending upon a deviation between the two signals to activate a compressor 3 to extend a shock absorber 1 or to open an exhaust valve 6 to contract the shock absorber 1 to thereby adjust the car height.
