Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce heat loads to a part between valves, etc., and prevent generation of cracks by spraying metal of high thermal conductivity onto the combustion surface of a cylinder head forming a head conducting layer.
CONSTITUTION: On the combustion surface 2 of a cylinder head 1 made of ordinary cast iron, a recess 3 is made, grooves 5 are worked on its bottom, then corners 6 are formed to roughen the surface and a heat conducting layer 8 is formed by spraying metal of high thermal conductivity such as copper or copper alloy in the recess 3. As the heat conducting layer 8 sticks tightly to the cylinder head 1, if heat due to combustion is conducted to the heat conducting layer 8, it conducts even a small temperature difference from the cylinder head 1 surely and quickly to the cylinder head 1 and accelerates its cooling via a water jacket 11. By so doing, heat loads to a part between valves, a valve chamber 14 are reduced, generation of cracks are prevented and the reliability and durability of the engine are improved.
