Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate detection of any abnormality in the movement of a carriage by a simple constitution by providing a specific position detector within the movable area of the carriage in the printer wherein printing is performed by moving the carriage.
CONSTITUTION: First, as the preset operation, the carriage 1 is moved from the left end side to the right, the timing signals (b) corresponding to each position of printing characters are generated in a central processing unit and counted and, when a signal is outputted from a proximity switch 17 by the operation bar 15 of the carriage 1, the count data of the timing signals are preset in a memory as the amount of movement of the carriage. Next, when a key input is given, the printing is performed with the sampling (d) of the presence or absence of the signal from the switch 17, and, when the signal from the switch 17 is received, the count at the time is compared with the data of the amount of movement which is preset. When both values are not in accord with each other, the abnormality of movement not in accord with each other, the abnormality of movement is detected.
