Abstract

PURPOSE: A quick-curing phenol resin with excellent flexibility, which is prepared by compounding a liquid phenol resin obtained by the reaction of a phenol with an aldehyde under specified conditions, with tris(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A phenol (e.g., phenol or cresol) is mixed with (B) an aldehyde (e.g., formalin or paraformaldehyde) in a mol ratio of 1:1.3W1.7, and the resulting mixture is adjusted to 7.5W9 in pH, by the addition of a base such as NaOH. A liquid phenol resin is obtained by reacting the mixture in a conventional manner. 100pts.wt. solid content of liquid phenol resin is compounded with 5W 60pts.wt. of tris(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyamurate, to obtain purpose phenol resin.
USE: Useful for the production of a melamine resin decorative laminated sheet for post forming, a phenol resin laminated sheet for cold punching, etc.
