Abstract

PURPOSE: In the presence of an interphase transfer catalyst, the reaction between an alkali metal salt of theobromine and an oxohexyl halide is conducted to produce the titled compound which is used as a remedy for the sequela of cerebral thrombosis with no formation of by-products, in high yield and purity with industrial advantage.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of theobromine with an oxohexyl halide formula I (X is halogen) is conducted in the presence of an interphase transfer catalyst in a catalyst amount to produce the titled compound of formula II. The interphase transfer catalyst is, e.g., a compound of formula III (Y- is halide, phosphate, sulfate; R1-4 are alkyl aryl, aralkyl). The amount is 0.01W30 equivalent % based on therbromine, preferably 20W15 equvalent %. The use of benzene or toluene is preferred in the reaction. The reaction is effected at a temperature from room temperature to the boiling point of the solvent, however, a higher temperature promotes the reaction.
