Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily carry out uniform metal covering by winding a low m.p. metal sheet around an optical fiber part covered with a metal thin film and melting the metals with laser beams. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber is subjected to uniform metal covering without damaging the nylon covered part. Nylon layer 4 covering optical fiber 5 is peeled off by the length required for feed-through. Metal 6 such as Ta or Ni having high sticking strength to fiber 5 is stuck to fiber 5 to form a metal tube, and several mu-several tens mu tapelike sheet 7 of a substance such as Ag or Pb having high fittability with solder is wound around the tube. The resulting fiber is set to support stand 9 having an axial direction movement and rotation mechanism, and sheet 7 and the tube are heat melted with output beam from laser 10 to cover fiber 5. The tube may be wrapped in sheetlike substance 8 in place of sheet 7.
