Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a fuel electrode with reduced deterioration on standing and improved life by using a three component catalyst composed of platinum-ruthenium- metal as a catalyst for a fuel cell of an acid electrolyte fuel cell. CONSTITUTION:A platinum-ruthenium-rhenium or platinum-ruthenium-tin three component catalyst is used as a catalyst for a fuel electrode 3 composed of an electrode base and catalyst, and the catalyst is deposited on the electrode base by electro-deposition. A fuel electrode 3 of said three component catalyst, fuel 2 of a material such as methanol, form-aldehyde, or formic acid, an acidic electrolyte 4 of a material such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, or trifluoromethane sulfonic acid, and oxidizing agent electrode 5 are combined to form an acidic electrolyte battery.
