Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the thermal stability and the resistance to chemicals, and thus lengthen the life of an alkaline battery by employing a separator made of a fluorine cation-exchange-membrane which has a given ion exchange group. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 3 whose main component is silver oxide, manganese dioxide or the like, is placed on the bottom of a positive-electrode can 2 of an alkaline battery. A separator 1 of the battery is made of a fluorine cation-exchange-membrane, which has a carbonyl group as an ion exchange group. The former cation exchange-membrane is preferred to be made of a copolymer which is made from, for example, an olefin-fluoride monomer and a polymerizable monomer which has either a carbonyl group or a functional group which can be converted into a carbonyl group. As to the structure of the former copolymer, the carbonyl group of the copolymer is connected to carbon atoms at least one of which is connected to a fluorine atom.
