Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the internal resistance of a nonaqueous-electrolyte battery by breaking the oxidized film of the separator-side surface of a lithium negative-plate, and thus exposing parts of a metal-lithium surface. CONSTITUTION:The oxidized film of the separator-side surface of a lithium negative-plate 4, is broken by pressing needlelike projections 3 against the film, thus metal lithium being exposed. For example, a drilling tool 1, which consists of a base plate 2 and needle-or nail-like projections which are planted on the plate 2, is preferred to be used for breaking the surface of a lithium negative-plate 4 which is placed in a negative-electrode can 7 of a button-type battery or the like. On the other hand, the surface of a lithium negative-plate 4 of a cylindrical battery can be broken by passing the negative plate 4 between a plain roller and a roller which has pinlike projections on it. Consequently, the internal resistance of the battery can be satisfactorily minimized, because parts of the metal-lithium surface are exposed by breaking the oxidized-film surface of the lithium negative-plate 4.
