Abstract

PURPOSE: To simultaneously obtain both effects of cleaning and polishing, using a roller by allowing a web coated with a polishing agent to make face contact with the surface of a photosensitive drum.
CONSTITUTION: The remaining toner on a photosensitive drum 4 is cleaned by a web 1 coated with a polishing agent, in the position of a roller 2. The roller 2 curves along the drum surface to form a nip and the contact of the web 1 is made uniform by the nip width thereof, whereby the effect of cleaning is improved. In addition, the web 1 contacts the drum 1 between the rollers 2 and 3, thereby performing cleaning. As a result, the polishing of the drum surface is accomplished effectively.
