Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate engine control by interposing a sensor in exhaust gas of an engine on the rarefied combustion system and by detecting a point where partial pressure of peroxidic gas is generated from a sudden change in polarity.
CONSTITUTION: Base sinter 4 is fitted right in front of the muffler of an exhaust pipe extending from an engine exhaust outlet to the muffler so that sensor base 1 will be placed in exhaust gas. When current pulses are sent to heating resistance line 3, a difference in temperature is generated between two electrodes to generate thermal electromotive force. As partial pressure of oxidic gas surpasses the n.p conversion point of sensor base 1, the potential of an electrode at a higher-temperature side changes from positive to negative, so that the oxidic gas can be detected.
