Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the size of the apparatus and increase its output power by an arrangement wherein a single hydraulic cylinder is used to serve for both trimming and tilting and trimming pistons are disposed in series.
CONSTITUTION: When a moment is acted on an outboard motorboat due to the collision or the like while cruising, an external force is generated to slide a tilting piston 16 in a connecting sleeve 15 to the expansion side. On this occasion, operating oil in a small chamber 11a flows into another small chamber 12b via a check valve 21 and the external force is damped by a resistance force produced when the operating oil flows through the check valve 21. At the moment of the collision, pressure within a branched tube 47 becomes higher temporarily, so that a pressure switch 52 is actuated and a motor 29 is reversed in its rotation. Thus, the outboard motorboat having been momentarily swung with respect to a position while normal cruising is restored the normal position again. At this time, the motor 29 is stopped and the cruising is continued thereafter.
