Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform fresh water making from sea water simply at a low cost, by providing a filtrating mechanism for sea water by the difference between the internal pressure of a pressure resistant intake tank for sea water and the outer pressure by utilizing reverse osmosis. CONSTITUTION:A pressure resistant sea water intake tank 1 is equipped with a semipermeable membrane unit and a vent line 3. The top end of the vent line 3 opens above the sea surface 4. The semipermeable membrane unit is continued through cylindrical semipermeable membranes 5 and a diaphragm 8 installed in the housing 7 to the tank 1. The housing 7 is continued to a water pipe 9, through which sea water is fed into the housing 7 through a filter 11 by a pump 10. In addition a hole 13 through which sea water flows is made. When the intake tank 1 is immersed to a prescribed depth (about 300-500m) under the sea surface, about 30-50kg/cm<2> pressure difference is produced between the inside and the outside of the intake tank 1, so that the sea water permeates through the semipermeable membrane to enter the tank 1, hereby fresh water is produced. Use of the pump 10 allows to decrease the depth of the tank 1.
