Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for equipment such as high pressure pump and reduce consumption energy by installing a reverse osmotic membrane module in the deep sea bottom and making use of the difference between the water pressure in the deep sea and atmospheric pressure in the desalination apparatus of sea water. CONSTITUTION:In the case of desalinating sea water by a reverse osmosis method, a permeable membrane module 1 is installed in the deep sea bottom and one end of a vent pipe 2 of high pressure resistance is mounted to the water permeation side thereof. The other end of the pipe is protruded on the sea surface and sea water pressure and atmospheric pressure are applied to the permeable membrane module. Owing to the differential pressures thereof, fresh water is produced as permeated water form sea water and this fresh water is once stored in a storage tank 3, after which it is stored into the water storage tank 6 on the sea surface by a lift pump 4. When the deep sea of several hundred meters cannot be used, microbes and suspensions are filtered out by passing the sea water through a filter and the sea water is sent to the permeable membrane module after controlling its pH. For pressure insufficient portion, the energy of wind force or wave force is utilized.
