Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a titled catalyst of superior high-temperature durability and low-temperature activity over a long period of time which comprises a mixture of the porous sinter of MgAl2O4 spinel and porous sinter of Al2O3 respectively carrying with catalytic components of one or more of Pt, Pd, Rh. CONSTITUTION:An MgAl2O4 spinel carrier is prepared by mixing, for example, MgO powder and Al2O3 powder and molding the mixture into a desired shape then by heating and sintering the molding. By using the resulted porous sintered body as a carrier, one or more of Pt, Pd and Rh are made carried on this carrier, whereby a catalyst A is made. On the other hand, one more kinds of Pt, Pd and Rh are similarly carried on a porous sintered body comprising commercial active alumina, whereby carried on a prous sintered body comprising commerical active alumina, whereby a catalyst B is made. Next, the catalyst A and catalyst B are mixed in 90:10-10:90 ratios based on weight, whereby the catalyst for purifying harmful components such as CO, HC, NOX at high efficiency is prepared. Here, CeO2 is contained in the carriers of the catalysts A and B, whereby the catalyst of particularly high activity for purifying NOX is obtained.
