Abstract
PURPOSE: To adsorb and remove ions such as NH4+, Na+ by allowing water containing these ions by contacting with finely powdered clay.
CONSTITUTION: As for clay, the bentonite essentially comprising montmorillonite is finely powdered to have the specific surface area increased. Water contg. NH4+, Na+, etc. is contacted with the adsorbent comprising said finely powdered clay to have ≥90% of theseions adsorbed, then filtered with filtering media such as sand, to remove said ions. To regenerate above adsorbent, pressure water is added to the water suspended with the finely powdered clay to allow fine air bubbles to settle on the clay surfaces, whereby the above-described ions stuck on the clay may be set free into the water.
