Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain lithium in high yield, by a method wherein potassium ferric periodate solution is used to precipitate a complex salt from bittern lithium ferric periodate, the precipitate is dissolved in CHl, and the solution is treated with an H-type cation-exchange resin.
CONSTITUTION: Potassium ferric periodate solution is added to bittern and is heated to 45W50°C so that whitish yellow precipitate of lighium ferric periodate is obtained. The precipitate is filtered, and dissolved in a small amount of HCl, and is adjusted to an acid concentration in of less than 0.5N by adding distilled water. The solution is then treated with an H-type cation-exchange resin, and only lithium is eluted out by use of methanol and diluted HCl mixture.
