Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover and regenerate the raw material of polyurethane from waste polyurethane, economically, safely, at a low cost, by the ammnolysis of the polyurethane with a compound which generates ammonia by heating.
CONSTITUTION: Waste polyurethane is mixed with an inorganic or organic compound which generates ammonia gas by the thermal decomposition at 50W200°C [e.g. ammonium (bi)carbonate, urea, etc.] and if necessary, a solvent (e.g. water or methanol). The mixture is heated at 50W200°C to effect the ammonolysis of said polyurethane.
EFFECT: The recovered raw material can be reused without particular purification.
