Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a subject ink feeder, whose structure is simplified and which is inexpensive, by a method wherein a temperature controller is commonly used for ink fed to an ink jet head and ink for viscosity measurement. CONSTITUTION:In an ink jet recorder which feeds ink in a tank to an ink jet head 1 through a pressurizing pump 11, a filter 14, etc., a temperature controller 20 is located between the filter 14 and the ink head 1, and a viscosity measuring device 30 is connected to a branch pipe 21 of the device 20, whereby a part of ink is returned to the tank 9 through a pipe 39. When ink viscosity is measured, an electromagnetic valve 40 is closed, and ink flowing from the pipe 21 through a hole 32' in an orifice sheet 32 is stored in a device 30. A time t required for the movement of a liquid lever from a level sensor 33-34 is measured, and when said time is longer than a reference time ts, a fresh ink (or diluted ink liquid) is poured into the tank from a refilling cartridge 10 to always keep a viscosity of ink, fed to the head 1, in a proper value.
