Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate mold releasing and produce the beautiful cast sheet of acrylic resin having a film on its surface by a method wherein the surface of a glass plate is treated with a specified organic silane compound so as to lower the critical surface tension of the surface of the glass plate.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of the cast sheet by the glass cell process, the surface of the glass plate is treated with the organic silane compound having radicals capable of chemically reacting with the surface, thereby lowering the critical surface tension of the surface of the glass plate. The solution of a film-forming material is coated on the thus-treated surface to form film, then an acrylic monomer is poured into the cell and solidified, whereby the mold releasing is facilitated and the beautiful cast sheet having a film on its surface is obrained securely and with good reproducibility. Phenyltrichlorosilane, trimethylchlorosilane or the like is used as the silane-based treating agent.
