Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent noxious tritium from being released into the air in the regeneration of a cold trap for purifying liq. Na used in a fast breeder reactor by allowing generated hydrogen and tritium to be adsorbed on an adsorption column and storing them in a cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: In the purification of liq. Na for cooling contg. hydrogen and tritium as impurities with cold trap 10, the hydrogen and tritium are released and stuck to trap mesh 11 as Na compound. When trap 10 is clogged with the compound, liq. Na is circulated between trap 10 and degassing pot 23, and simultaneously trap 10 is heated to ≥300°C with heater 13. The hydrogen and tritium captured by mesh 11 are passed through degassing pump 23 and adsorbed on activated carbon or the like in adsorption column 30 in thermostat 29 for cooling. column 30 is then heated to store the hydrogen and radioactive noxious tritium in cylinder 37. Thus, they are prevented from being released into the air.
