Abstract

PURPOSE: To press-solidify nondefective products by folding inward a chil layer deposited near the inner circumferential surface of a through-hole communicating with a cavity in a metal mold when a punch is inserted, by forming the top surface edge part of the press-punch at an acute projecting edge.
CONSTITUTION: In metal mold 1, cavity 2, spare thickness room 3 and through-hole 4 are formed being stepped in sequence into a small diameter. The top surface of press-punch 6 is made concave and its circumferential edge is formed into projecting edge 7 with an acute angle to the inner circumferential surface of through-hole 4. After molten metal is poured into cavity 2, press-core 5 is moved downward to pressurize the molten metal and press-punch 6 is moved upward to pressurize the molten metal from below. In this case, chill layer A deposited near the inner circumferential surface of through-hole 4 is drawn inward along projecting edge 7 of press-punch 6. Consequently, even if press-punch 6 is further moved upward, chill layer A stays bent horizontally and is never pushed up into cavity 2, so that the nondefective forged products can be obtained.
