Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture the high grade steel sheet, by removing the segragated layer from the surface of the unfinished material like as the ingot or billet, by analyzing the sulfur content of the segragated layer removed from the surface, and by feeding the rolling pass with only the material containing sulfur with the specified or less value of ratio between the maximum analysis value and the sulfur content of the molten steel held in the ladle.
CONSTITUTION: The segragated layer is removed from the surface of the unfinished material like as the slab, etc., by scarfing, machining, grinding, etc., and next, the segregated layer of the surface is analyzed in respect of the sulfur content. As for the analyzing method, there is a method in which the spectrum analysis is applied to the surface of object being irradiated by the giant pulse laser. As a result of this analysis, if the ratio between the maximum sulfur content of the ingot or billet and the sulfur content of the molten metal held in the ladle is or less, this ingot or billet is fed to the next rolling pass to finish the purposed product. If this ratio is higher than 1.5, such ingot or billet is again subjected to the surface scarfing work, and is returned to the analyzing section.
