Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent a guide bearing of a vertical shaft rotary machine from rising in temperature by providing a fin which is turned with an oil sump to stir an air around it, on the outer wall face of the oil sump fixed to a rotation shaft on the lower part of the bearing.
CONSTITUTION: In a vertical shaft rotary machine, a bearing 14 is fixed to the lower peripheral face of a rotation shaft 12 and held by a bearing retainer 16 so as to be freely slid on it. An oil sump 24 is fixed to the rotation shaft 12 on the lower part of the bearing 14 and a shaft seal element 18 is secured to the rotation shaft on the lower part of the oil sump 24. A fin 34 is attached to the side wall 21 of the oil sump 24. The fin 34 of the oil sump 24 is turned with the rotation shaft 12 so that a cool air is sucked up from the top face of the shaft seal element 18 and creates an air current. As the current promotes the radiation of a hot air from the side walls 20W22 of the oil sump 24 and carries the air away from the upper part of the bearing retainer 16, the temperature of a lubricating oil may be reduced.
